Lecture and Concert Presentation "Music and the Ambiance of Live Theatre," Prof. Jerzy Sapieyevski
This lecture concerns the impact of music on the ambience of the theatre and its function in emphasizing the emotional elements of the play and its representation. Professor Sapieyevski will demonstrate the technique of composing music on the spot and its adaptation to each of the performances by taking into consideration such details as the actor’s voice, pace and the rhythm of speech, the gestures, and their spontaneity. The lecture is based on the Aesop’s Fables. Professor will accompanied by actress Katarzyna Sowińska.

A composer, pianist, he teaches performance art at the University of Washington. Founder and artistic director of New Century Music™. He attended Gdańsk University of Technology and The Academy of Music in Gdańsk. He graduated in the United States. Connected with the student jazz movement. Distinguished jazz pianist, composer of the young generation, co-author of the aesthetics of the “Third Stream”. He has won, among the others, “Jazz On The Odra River” festival which is one of the Poland’s oldest and most prestigious jazz competitions in Poland”. He performed at the Warsaw “Jazz Jamboree Festival”. He composes for radio, television programmes and theatre. His on the spot compositions combine various influences: classical music, jazz and the avant-garde. He performed at the Kennedy Center, Library of Congress and Carnegie Hall. He contributes a unique expertise of combining various artistic media with the creative use of technology.
